This lecture provides an overview of the history, methods, technologies, and research areas of the Digital Humanities.
Instructor: Georg Vogeler, Sarah Lang
Course Overview
The lecture introduces students to the Digital Humanities as an interdisciplinary field and surveys its historical development, central research questions, and methodological approaches. It covers key areas including digital libraries and archives, digitisation, natural language processing, digital editions, information retrieval, information visualisation, image processing, and geographic information systems.
Drawing on examples from a range of humanities disciplines, the course familiarises students with both the theoretical foundations and the core technologies that underpin contemporary Digital Humanities research.
This course was taught at the University of Graz in Winter Semester 2021/2022 together with Georg Vogeler.
